Many of your assignments will require you to find and use “scholarly” journal articles as sources. Scholarly journals are published by and for scholars or academic subject specialists. When authors submit articles to these journals for publication, they are reviewed by other subject specialists before being published. This process, called "peer review," ensures the articles meet the journal’s standards of academic rigor and scholarship.
Scholarly journal articles are usually found in databases. Some databases allow you to limit to scholarly articles only. Other databases may not have this limiter because they already contain only scholarly information. Be aware that the databsae may use different terminology for these articles, such as:
- Peer Reviewed
- Refereed
- Academic
